Whirr at Roboto Project and Axis:Sova at Gooski's - Ticket Giveaway and Concert Preview - April 7, 2015

Very excited to announce we have a pair of ticket giveaways going on for two highly recommended shows Tuesday.

The first, at Mr. Roboto Project, is Whirr.  The band was founded by former Deafheaven guitarist Nick Bassett, whose work appears on their first EP, Roads to Judah.  (Whirr's most recent album, Sway, was produced by Sunbather producer Jack Shirley.) Bassett also plays bass in Philly shoegaze outfit Nothing, which performed at the Smiling Moose last year.

Whirr utilizes a more atmospheric sound than Deafheaven's ear-blistering sonic assault. Noisey called their new album, Sway, "fuzzy, reverbed up shoegaze that will send you into a deep yet chill catatonic state." A song like "Dry" sounds like something off of a Slowdive compilation, while later tracks are reminiscent of Palms, Chino Moreno's side project with members of Isis.

Here's the track "Mumble" off of their new album, Sway.

Next up, at Gooski's, is Axis: Sova. Signed to Ty Segall’s God? Records, Sova opened for Segall on his Manipulator tour. As you might imagine, they have a grimy psychedelic sound with plenty of unhinged guitar solos. Here's the video for their new song, "Early Surf," off of their newly released album of the same name:

We have a pair of tickets to giveaway for each of these awesome shows. To enter, email your name to pghmusicreport@gmail.com, and put the name of which show you're entering for in the subject line. Want to enter for both shows? Go for it!  Whirr starts at 7, and Axis: Sova isn't until at least 9, so you can easily head from Bloomfield over to Polish Hill for both shows. We'll announce a winner Monday morning.

Also performing with Whirr is Give, Run Forever, Swingers Club, and Adventures. Axis: Sova is joined by Come Holy Spirit, and Boys.
