Facebook said the show would start at 9.

"It's a weeknight," read the post. "I hate punk time so please show up early so we can start this shit earlier."

The band strolled in around 9:20, and hit the back room stage shortly before 10.

The more things change, the more they stay the same for The Gotobeds. Even though this was the band's first show since signing to Sub Pop, the guys played it cool. No one mentioned the new label or even alluded to any type of changes at all.

The set reminded me of Diarrhea Planet's set at Club Cafe last year.  Raucous, but not sloppy. Manic, but not unhinged. Sometimes, when Gavin, the bass player, would go to sing, the guitarist, Tom, would kick the mic stand to try to bust Gavin in the chops. They're having the time of their lives up there.

There was a moment toward the end of the show, after the band knocked over all their equipment, when Eli and Cary embraced onstage, perhaps an acknowledgement of their success so far, and the promise of what's to come.

As for Protomartyr? Yeah, they're that good.
